I set this site up to help teachers and provide a space to learn together. Lifting Literacy has been a concept that brought together my two passions, literacy work and lifting weights. As I started looking at ways to use the site, I thought about the #G2Great chat that I have been a part of for the last few years and the work we do to bring resources and discussions to the forefront. As #G2Great has evolved and each member has developed other projects to work on, I have looked at my next evolution and what Lifting Literacy could become.
So here are the tentative plans, and we will see what happens
Monthly Chat: We will hold a monthly chat on Twitter (for as long as it survives) to discuss a book selected for the month; this month is Angela Stockman's Teacher's Guide to Multimodal Composition. (These chats will be on the last Thursday of the month, with plenty of time to read the book if interested.)
Forum Discussion Questions: The website can host a forum. I think it should be easy to join and comment.
Author Interviews: This is a dream at the moment, but I hope to arrange a little visit with the authors about their books and maybe even have a little Q&A (we will cross our fingers on that one).
I am hopeful we can build a little online community on this site and other Social Media platforms. We also have a growing Facebook Group (titled Lifting Literacy. answer the membership question, and it will approve you).
A new year and new adventures; I don't know where this will go or even if it will, but I know that teachers need a community right now, and I am happy to try and build one. Join us.
